There are 3 car rental agencies in Colon, Budget and Hertz. Both are located in the 2000 (Dos Mil) shopping center in Colon. If you pay by credit card, Hertz charge $35 per day with insurance, and $45 per day if you pay cash. There are high season and low season rates.

The new highway takes about 1 hour, however, you must allow 45 min for lockage. The stretch of road from Colon to the outskirts of Panama City is a 2 lane highway. Parts of the road are not marked with yellow lines and at times may be hard to tell what is going on. Be cautious and do not hurry. As you approach Panama City you will enter the Altopista which is a well maintained toll road. Here the traffic is divided with 4 lanes and is a modern freeway. The toll costs $2.30
